Yesterday, BMW unveiled the new BMW 3 Series GT. The new Gran Turismo is built on the 3 Series platform, has an increased wheelbase and is based on the design of the BMW 5 Series GT. Being 4.824 mm long, 1.489 mm tall, 1.828 mm wide and with a wheelbase of 2.920 mm, the new BMW 3 Series Gran Turismo is significantly larger than the previously released sedan and touring models.
On the other hand, the BMW 5 Series GT is 4.998 mm long, 1.559 mm tall, 1.901 mm wide and has a wheelbase of 3.070 mm.
Design-wise, we thing that the 3 Series GT has more attractive proportions and lines. The frameless windows on the four doors, combined with the coupe-like roof line, both grant the car a more elegant look than that of its “older cousin”. At the rear, some engine options come with a spoiler for the trunk, the first of its kind in the range.
At the front, the BMW 3 Series GT takes over the design of the F30, with headlights which extend up to the kidney grille, which is slightly pushed forward. The 3 Series GT also has larger headlights than the sedan. The larger air inlets give the car a more edgy and aggressive look. Another characteristic of the 3 Series GT are the “blades” of the air inlets on the front bumper.
At the rear, we can find the classic L-shaped taillights, with two rows of built-in LEDs. The wider opening for the luggage compartment allows for easier access to the storing space and facilitates the loading of bulkier luggage.
Like the BMW 5 Series GT, the new 3 Series Gran Turismo stands out through its interior design, which provides comfort and luxury both for the driver and passengers.
The BMW 3 Series Gran Turismo was designed by Page Beermann, exterior designer and Georg Allmendinger, interior designer.
Here’s the photo comparison and a survey in which we invite you tell us which car looks better.
